Myko the Rescue Dog Who Rules His Grandparents’ House

When Myko’s mom went to pick him up after a visit with his grandparents, she couldn’t help but laugh. Growing up, her parents had been strict — there were rules about everything from table manners to bedtime. But now? Her dog, Myko, was sitting proudly on their dining room table, being showered with love and cuddles.

“I was NOT raised this way,” Myko’s mom joked on Instagram. “Please explain why he is allowed to do whatever he wants?”

It turns out that when Myko is at his grandparents’ house, rules go out the window. What used to be a place of discipline has now turned into what his mom calls his “vacation home” — a second home where he is spoiled beyond belief, and no one dares to say no to him.

From Shelter Dog to Family Treasure

Myko’s story didn’t start with luxury or endless treats. He came from a high-kill shelter in South Carolina, a place where many dogs never get the chance at a real life. When his mom rescued him as a puppy, her parents couldn’t wait to meet him.

“When we brought Myko home, they fell in love instantly,” his mom recalled. “It was truly love at first sight for Myko and for them.”

From that very first meeting, a special bond began to grow. For Myko, his grandparents became more than just family — they became his second set of parents, the people who spoil him without hesitation, and the safe place he always runs to.

Now, Myko visits three to four times a week while his mom works, making their home his own little sanctuary. He knows when he hears their names that it’s time for an adventure, wagging his tail wildly and even “talking” with excited chirps until he gets there.

A Day in the Life at the “Vacation Home”

At his grandparents’ house, Myko has a routine that rivals most people’s vacations. His mornings begin with a cozy cuddle session, followed by breakfast that often includes something extra — “eggies” saved by his grandfather or “crusties” (pieces of toast) saved by his Grammy.

Then comes tea time. Yes, tea time. Myko joins his grandparents in their morning ritual, sitting by their side as they sip tea and watch birds outside the window.

Later, he stretches out for what his family lovingly calls “meditation” on the bed. In the afternoon, they take a walk to the local duck pond, where Myko struts proudly with his grandparents, often drawing smiles from people who see just how adored he is.

His evenings are no less cozy. He curls up with his Grammy to watch TV, snuggled up in bed. In fact, when he stays overnight, his grandfather actually gives up his spot in the bed and moves to the guest room — just so Myko can cuddle with Grammy all night.

“At home, Myko is crate-trained,” his mom explained. “But at his grandparents’ house, he’s treated like royalty.”

Loved, Protected, and Understood

What makes Myko’s story even more heartwarming is how deeply his family understands him. Myko isn’t just a spoiled pup; he’s also sensitive and struggles with anxiety. Loud noises like fireworks or thunder can overwhelm him, so his parents and grandparents have built their lives around making him feel safe.

They hired an in-home veterinarian to reduce the stress of clinic visits. When his grandparents aren’t available to watch him, they bring in professional sitters to stay in the house so he doesn’t feel abandoned. At home, they fenced in the backyard to create a private doggy playground and make sure he has dog friends to run with.

Every night, his dad cooks him a fresh dinner of vegetables, eggs, fruits, and meat. And yes — Myko gets steaks on special occasions. He even has his favorite blue blanket that he loves to be wrapped in when he needs comfort.

“Myko has an enormous personality and a ton of feelings,” his mom said. “I think that’s what draws people to him. He seems to feel things the way a human would.”

A Soulmate in Fur

Despite his anxiety, Myko’s personality shines through. He’s brave, smart, funny, and deeply affectionate. His bond with his grandparents adds another layer of richness to his life — a reminder that love isn’t limited to just mom and dad.

For his mom, watching her once-shelter pup blossom into the adored “grand-dog” of the family has been a gift. “There are so many ways Myko has made our lives better,” she shared. “He is absolutely our soulmate.”

Myko may not follow the same rules his mom once did growing up, but that’s the magic of being at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. Rules are optional, love is endless, and every day is a vacation.

And if that means sitting on the dining room table after breakfast? Well, Grammy and Grandpa wouldn’t have it any other way.
