From Dad’s Pup to Mom’s Shadow
Diz has been part of her family since she was a tiny puppy. At first, her whole world revolved around her dad, but when he got married, everything changed. Diz instantly bonded with her new mom, Brittany Johnson, and the two became inseparable.
Over time, Diz’s affection deepened into something stronger — a protective instinct. While she loves everyone in the household, Brittany became her person, and Diz has made it her mission to always stay close.
A New Chapter: Baby on the Way
Earlier this year, Brittany and her husband found out they were expecting a baby. Naturally, Diz picked up on the changes in the house and in her mom. At first, she reacted with curiosity, often resting her head gently on Brittany’s growing belly, as if listening for signs of life inside. But after those first few weeks, Diz seemed to go back to her old routine, no longer paying much attention to the pregnancy.
That all changed a few weeks ago. It was as if a light switch flipped inside of Diz. Suddenly, she went from casually affectionate to fiercely watchful. Whether Brittany was on the couch, in the kitchen, or heading to bed, Diz was right there — her loyal shadow.
“Out of nowhere, she decided she had to be glued to me,” Brittany explained. “It’s like her big-sister instincts kicked in.”
Always on Duty — Even in the Bathroom
One of the clearest signs of Diz’s new protective streak came during what Brittany thought would be a normal shower. Like usual, Diz followed her into the bathroom and sat patiently by the door. But after a few minutes, Diz grew restless.
“She peeked her head in like, ‘Are you OK in there? You’re taking too long,’” Brittany recalled with a laugh.
Not satisfied with just keeping watch from the outside, Diz took the next step. She carefully climbed into the shower stall and sat down, refusing to budge until her mom was finished.
“She sat there until I was done with my shower,” Brittany said. “She just wasn’t going to risk letting me out of her sight for that long.”
For Diz, it wasn’t about being nosy — it was about making sure nothing could possibly happen to her mom without her knowing.
Preparing to Be the Best Big Sister
At just 20 weeks along, Brittany still has a few months before the baby arrives. But Diz clearly isn’t waiting to step into her new role as big sister. Every day, she’s practicing by staying on alert, watching over Brittany with unwavering focus, and following her everywhere she goes.
“Cause you know something might happen to me when she’s not watching,” Brittany joked.
While Diz doesn’t fully understand what’s happening, she seems to sense that her family is about to change — and that her mom needs her more than ever right now. Her protective instincts are strong, but so is her love. She’s not just hovering out of worry; she’s showing, in her own way, that she’s ready to help care for the newest member of the family.
A Future Full of Love
Once the baby arrives, Diz will officially step into her role as big sister — and if her current behavior is any indication, she’s going to take that responsibility very seriously.
For Brittany, Diz’s loyalty has been both funny and heartwarming. Pregnancy comes with its challenges, but having a furry guardian by her side every step of the way has been an unexpected comfort.
“She’s just the sweetest,” Brittany said. “She wants to make sure I’m safe all the time.”
And when the baby finally comes home, Diz will already be well-practiced in her duties: watching, protecting, and, most of all, loving with her whole heart.
