Life has a way of placing us exactly where we need to be, often at the perfect moment. For Selina Dey, a devoted solo dog rescuer living in Bali, Indonesia, that moment came one quiet day while she was riding her scooter. Dey has built her life around saving the most vulnerable animals, and her instincts are always sharp.
As she cruised along the road, she suddenly heard what she first thought were screams coming from the brush nearby. Her heart sank. She pulled over immediately, knowing that an animal was likely in distress.
“I heard the screams from the street while driving on my scooter,” Dey later explained in an Instagram post.
Discovering a Pink, Wrinkly Baby
Following the cries, Dey peered down into a ditch. What she found left her stunned. A tiny, wrinkly, pink puppy was desperately trying to climb her way out, wagging her little tail as if to say “thank you” before the rescue had even begun.
The fragile pup, later named Jenny, had somehow made it onto a concrete slab but was far too weak and small to escape on her own. Without hesitation, Dey climbed down and scooped her up.
“She couldn’t get out, so I climbed down [to] where she was stuck,” Dey wrote. “[I] picked her up and took her into my heart.”
Jenny’s condition was heartbreaking. Her skin was bare, sore, and badly in need of treatment. But in that moment, she was no longer alone — she had Selina.
Fighting the Odds on a Holiday
Dey knew Jenny needed immediate care. She placed the fragile puppy into a shopping bag to carry her safely home. But just when things seemed urgent enough, there was another obstacle: it was Nyepi, a Balinese holiday during which everything on the island shuts down.
“No vet, pet shop or pharmacy was open,” Dey explained. “So I just did everything in my knowledge and power to save this girl.”
Thankfully, Dey was no stranger to emergencies. Over the years, she had built up an arsenal of rescue supplies and remedies. That day, every bit of her experience and preparation came into play.
Jenny received her first medicated bath, soothing her irritated skin and bringing some relief. Dey continued to treat her with whatever medicines she had on hand until professional veterinary care became available.
The Long Road to Recovery
The first weeks were incredibly tough. Jenny often cried through the night, her tiny body wracked with pain. Still, she had something she’d never known before — love.
“[I] loved her [like] she has probably never felt before,” Dey wrote. “[I] showered her in love (and medical baths).”
With Selina’s dedication, Jenny slowly began to heal. Her skin cleared, her body grew stronger, and eventually, her puppy spirit began to shine through. She played, wagged, and showed off her bubbly personality — something that had been hidden beneath all that suffering.
“She improved, and her playfulness and character came to light,” Dey said. “I am super happy to say that she pulled through [and] got all her beautiful hair back.”
Her transformation was nothing short of miraculous. What was once a frail, hairless pup blossomed into a lively, fluffy little dog full of energy and charm.
A Puppy Ready for Love
Today, Jenny is living her best life as one of Selina’s fosters. She adores playing with her furry siblings, bouncing around with endless joy, and yes, making sure she’s always the center of attention.
“She is absolutely in love with every other dog,” Dey said. “She likes to be the center of the universe.”
When she’s not romping around, Jenny can almost always be found curled up in Selina’s arms, soaking up affection from the woman who refused to give up on her.
Jenny is still waiting for her forever home, but until that day comes, she’s surrounded by love and care in her foster family. Selina feels nothing but gratitude for the pup’s resilience.
“I cannot believe how strong this beautiful soul is,” she reflected. “I am so grateful she fought her way back to life.”
Jenny’s story is one of incredible survival, compassion, and second chances. What began as desperate cries from a ditch has turned into a journey of healing and hope. Thanks to one woman’s quick instincts and boundless kindness, a fragile pink puppy is now a thriving dog with a bright future.
