Toast was rescued in Memphis, Tennessee, along with 15 other kittens by Angels Among Us Animal Rescue. When she first arrived at her foster home with Hannah Taff, she was extremely fragile. Her eyes were badly crusted over, and she was so small that she looked only half the size of the other kittens. At first, she could barely walk, and no one was sure how well she would recover.
A Surprising Transformation
With care and love, Toast began to heal and grow stronger. But as she got healthier, something unexpected happened—her appearance became more unusual. While the other kittens looked perfectly typical, Toast’s fur took on a wild, scruffy look. No matter how much her foster mom brushed or bathed her, she always appeared as though she had just woken up from the longest nap in history.
“She does get bathed and brushed daily,” Hannah explained. “A lot of people thought she just needed a bath to look normal — NOPE, she’s just special!”
A Personality That Shines
Even though Toast looks different, her playful spirit quickly wins hearts. She’s loud, energetic, and full of personality. Visitors often remark, “She’s so ugly she’s cute,” but within minutes, they fall in love with her affectionate and spunky nature. Her messy fur might make her stand out, but her charm is what truly makes her unforgettable.
Living Life Her Own Way
Aside from some ongoing eye issues, Toast is thriving. She hasn’t quite figured out how to stay neat in the litter box, she practices her kitten parkour daily, and she never seems to care how disheveled she looks. While her appearance might suggest she’s sleepy, the truth is Toast is a lively ball of fun who brings endless joy to those around her.
Toast may look different from other cats, but her story proves that being unique is something to celebrate — especially when paired with such a big, lovable personality.
