Within minutes, SRSL’s seasoned rescuer Donna Lochmann arrived at the scene. As soon as she saw the dog — later named Bowie — she could tell he had been through a lot. His fur was scruffy, his eyes tired, but there was still hope glimmering in them.
Lochmann gently led him to her car, and that’s when the most touching moment of all happened. As she settled into the driver’s seat, Bowie climbed closer, nestled his head against her shoulder, and let out a long, weary sigh — the kind of sigh that said, Finally. I’m safe.
“This sweet baby boy was beside himself, running the streets all alone,” SRSL later shared on Facebook. “[H]e wanted to be held and told everything would be OK.”
For the entire car ride, Lochmann held him close, whispering soothing words. The bond between them was instant, as if Bowie understood that this woman had stepped into his life to change it forever.

“Ramone is absolutely smitten with him,” foster mom Anne-Marie Theresa wrote online. “He loves to play with other dogs, and he is a professional snuggle bug!”
For Bowie, who had once been so lonely, this was the life he had always deserved.

Since moving in with his foster family, Bowie has blossomed. He loves learning new things, enjoys cuddling up with people, and thrives on being part of a family. Though he still waits for a permanent adoptive home, his rescuers are confident that the perfect match is out there.
“[H]e loves cuddling with people, and he loves learning new things!” SRSL shared. “This is one great pup, and he’s ready for you!”
The community has rallied behind Bowie as well. Local business Imo’s Pizza even stepped in, generously offering to cover his adoption fee — proof of how much this sweet boy has captured hearts across St. Louis.
Now, all that’s left is for the right family to come along — one who will cherish Bowie for the loyal, loving companion he’s proven to be.
